Turkey, Stuffing, Alien Invasion & Nuclear War

According to the programmers at the Sundance Channel, which, once upon a time specialized in the cable transmission of independent films, nothing says “Happy Thanksgiving” quite like Roland Emmerich’s explosive sci-fi epic Stargate. That’s right, not even the likes of Home for the Holidays, Avalon, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, or—god forbid—Pieces of April can compete. And to follow-up Stargate, they’re showing The Sum of All Fears. To the best of my knowledge, the actioner has no connection to the holiday, either. But perhaps I haven’t (over)analyzed their schedule enough. Maybe we’re meant to give thanks to don’t live in either film’s universe: where a tyrannical alien subjugates humans into building the ancient pyramids of Egypt or where Jack Ryan must again stop nuclear warfare between Russia and the United States from taking place. Ah, that’s it. Happy Thanksgiving!
